Shenandoah Area CouncilTrainingNew Leaders Training Communication

Training Communications….

The Shenandoah Area Council, Boy Scouts of America recognizes and agrees with the National Program group along with National Risk Management team that quality programming, reduced risks, and increased retention is a direct result of trained leaders.  To that order, the Local Executive Board passed a gate -keeper training policy in 2014.

This policy states that: In order for a unit to recharter all unit leaders must be trained for the position they serve in.

The policy discussion included that this would be in effect for all direct contact leaders as of January 2015 and ALL registered volunteers as of January 2016.  There was an amnesty period of 6 months (July 2014 – December 2014) to allow any leader needing additional training to have time to gather documentation and/or attend a live event.

We recognize that there was not a specific time frame set for Newly Recruited Leaders.  Therefore, the following is in place until further notice:

New Leader Registration:

Step One:        You must register with the Boy Scouts of America by filling out an Adult Registration application.  The National BSA Office and the Shenandoah Area Council require that all adults complete Youth Protection Training. You must complete the training prior to turning the application into the Council Office.  This is a one hour training session online.  A copy of your Youth Protection Training Certificate must be turned in with your completed application

Step Two:       You must complete all training for your position.  Training sessions can be found on the Council website.  Across the top, choose the Training tab.  Most specific positions are available online through portal.  You should complete this training as quickly as possible and will have the current 6-month amnesty to complete any needed live training events.
